Client: The Wellspring Foundation for Education
Title: Impact Evaluation of Rubavu School Development Program (SDP)
Period: May – November 2024

Project Description:

The School Development Program (SDP) has been implemented in close partnership with Rubavu District, seeking together to improve the quality of education in schools delivered in a safe and secure learning environment. The program started with 75 schools and has since increased to 99 schools across all 12 sectors. The program has worked closely with the district and sector education officials, school leaders, classroom teachers, school-based mentors, SEC/SAC members, and community leaders to address key issues related to school dropout and retention and increase learning outcomes in the context of the competency-based curriculum (CBC). The School Development Program (SDP) has three components: (i) effective teaching/learning, (ii) school leadership and (iii) community involvement. Educational Consultant Success, ECOS LTD is to help the organization and the team of stakeholders to learn lessons from the program, to identify what works and why, and to celebrate positive changes and impact in the schools, school communities and individual lives.

Title: GIGA Initiative for Improving Education in Rwanda (GIER) – Project baseline survey
Period: February – July 2024

Project Description:

In 2019, UNICEF, in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), founded the Global and Innovation Gateway (GIGA), a global initiative aimed at connecting every school to the Internet by 2030 and providing every young person with access to information, opportunities, and choices. The GIGA Initiative for Improving Education in Rwanda (GIER) seeks to enhance Rwanda's understanding of accelerating efforts to bring connectivity and improve instruction and learning for teachers and students. GIER also aims to support schools to become internet hubs for surrounding communities, facilitating access to e-commerce and e-government services. To comprehensively assess the impacts on learning and education in GIGA-supported schools, the University of Pennsylvania is collaborating with Educational Consulting Success, ECOS LTD, to conduct the baseline survey for the GIGA project.


Client: National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA)
Title: Conduct and Analyse learning achievement in Rwandan schools using global proficiency benchmarks
Period: May-November 2023

Project Description:

The Government of Rwanda (GoR) through the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and its institutions is implementing a Quality Basic Education for Human Capital Development Project. NESA works on the Sub-component of Supporting Quality Assurance Systems (National, Regional/ International learning assessment and Inspection). This project aims to strengthen Rwanda’s basic education system through investments in teacher preparation, recruitment, and professional development (to improve teaching practice) as well as in infrastructure and teaching and learning resources (to enhance students’ attendance and learning environment). The Education Sector Strategic Plan also states that the basic education system should provide students with foundational skills in literacy and numeracy and transferable skills such as problem-solving, communication, and ICT. The insights provided by LARS on numeracy and literacy achievements in P3, P6, and S3 classes would be instrumental in ensuring that the Government of Rwanda can improve the quality of basic education in Rwanda. Educational Consulting Success, ECOS LTD is working with African Education and Research Institute (AERI) to conduct LARS 2023 in 30 districts of Rwanda with 26,976 students from 562 selected schools. The research team led by AERI will produce a report on literacy and literacy (comprehension and reading), numeracy and science) P3, P6, and S3 for the subject of English, Kinyarwanda, Mathematics, and Science


Client: VVOB-Education for Development
Title: A Study on “School Based Mentor’s (SBM) Mentorship, Coaching and Leadership responsibilities in Rwanda.”
Period: April-July 2022

Project Description:

Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) with the support of VVOB – Education for development through ECOS consulting services conducted a qualitative study on SBM’s Mentorship, Coaching, and Leadership responsibilities in Rwanda that generated evidence to inform VVOB and its partners on how to provide the support that is more appropriate to SBMs around creating enabling environment for communities of Practice at school level in addition to providing key areas for Improvement that will inform the update of the School-Based Mentor Program Framework in Rwanda. The overall purpose of this study was to gauge the level of effort required for SBMs to accomplish their mentorship and coaching roles and responsibilities; roles assigned to SBMs in the leadership of the school and strategies used by SBMs to combine their mentorship and coaching responsibilities with teaching.

Title: Transformative Leadership for a New Africa
Period: April 12th-16th 2021

Project Description:

In collaboration with Marist Brothers organizing team based in Tanzania (Mwanza), a Consultant of ECOS has facilitated a virtual workshop on “Transformative Leadership for a New Africa”. The session focused on Outreach and relevance in the future, ecological issues, and strategies. The New Horizons workshop brought together 20 Heads of schools of Marist Brothers from The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. During the workshop, the participants actively shared their respective experiences and good practices. They committed to building on the SDGs and national agenda to put in place the appropriate educational measures for the protection of the environment

Title: International Education Market Profile
Period: February-March 2021

Project Description:

Delivery of a competitive analysis market report on the education sector within Rwanda (all levels of education) as well as an analysis of the challenges and opportunities for educational institutions who wish to recruit or establish partnerships in Rwanda. The market report will feature an overview of the education system; key insights regarding key trends, statistics, key contact lists, and recommendations for education clients in Canada who wish to become active in promoting Canadian opportunities for Rwanda's burgeoning education market.

Title: Baseline Research for Learning through Play (LtP) programme in Rwanda
Period: June 2020-December 2020

Project Description:

ECOS partnered with Australian Council for Educational Research, ACER India to carry out the Baseline Research for Learning through Play (LtP) programme in Rwanda. In partnership with LEGO foundation, UNICEF Rwanda is in the process of implementing a four-year programme to embed learning through play (LtP) into in-service training programme for the primary teachers. The programme intends to build capacities of the primary teachers to use LtP pedagogies for classroom teaching and learning. In the first year of the programme, a baseline needs to be established, which will form the basis for end line impact evaluation of the programme.

Title: School Head teachers regional workshop facilitation
Period: 16-18 June 2019

Project Description:

The New Horizons regional workshop facilitation by ECOS consultant was designed for 25 Headteachers of Marist Brothers secondary schools in five countries: Rwanda, The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Kenya, Tanzania, and The Central African Republic (CAR). The topic “Distributive Leadership” had three objectives: a)Discuss and share experiences and good practices around distributive leadership for an improved teaching and learning environment in schools b)Identify and discuss barriers/challenges hindering an effective distributive leadership c)Discuss and explore strategic actions to promote effective distributive leadership in schools

Title: Final evaluation of the L3 project
Period: From 16th May-21st June 2016

Project Description:

Conducted a Final evaluation of the L3 project “Literacy, Language and Learning. The L3 Initiative worked with the Rwanda Education Board (REB) and the University of Rwanda College of Education to strengthen teaching and learning in Rwanda so that children leave primary school with solid literacy and numeracy skills. It was a 5-year (2011 -2016) project funded by USAID.

Title: Facilitation of Programme Implementation Plan workshop

Project Description:

ECOS team member Co facilitated a five days' workshop organized by Right to Play Rwanda in Musanze district. The workshop focused on Programme Implementation Plan Development /PAQE (Play for the Advancement of Quality Education) under the financial support of Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and development of Canada (DFATD) formerly known as CIDA

Title: ECD mapping study
Period: February 13th -26th, 2015

Project Description:

ECOS team member supported Southern Hemisphere for ECD mapping exercise under UNICEF funds to Ministry of Education-Rwanda. Specific tasks included literature review, tools translations, community entry support, senior leader's appointment planning and management, field data collection and report drafting.

Project Description:

ECOS team carried out the project evaluation of Help a Child (Red een Kind): Improving the quality of education through active learning in Rwanda”. This was a UKAID funded project focusing on improving teaching and learning practices in primary schools of Rwanda.
